The California wedding trip - Mt St Helens

Lainie and Gary headed to a conference in Portland after their visit with us, and  four days later, we were off on our road trip to California for their wedding.  This was our first long road trip with the kids, and we decided to make an adventure of it!  We took two days to drive each way, and included some stops along the way.  Jason and I really enjoyed our visits to Mt St Helen's many years ago, and decided it'd be neat to take the kiddos there.  This was a great first stop on our big road trip!

At Johnson Ridge Observatory... we explored, ate lunch, watched the mini movie about the big eruption, and learned about volcanoes at the hands-on exhibits.  The weather was perfect!

Jason was able to zoom in with his camera and caught a photo of some steam rising from the dome

There's a herd of elk at the center of this photo! (so far away they are hard to see!)

From here we headed to Roseburg, OR, where we stayed for the night before making the rest of the trip to Napa, CA the next day.
