Our sweet little Maylee turned one on Monday! We hosted our mom's group in the morning and she especially loved seeing her little friends who are her size. In the afternoon, we enjoyed family time together and celebrated with cake (she loves pears so we made her a pear cake with cream cheese frosting) and presents (and lots of photos!). It was a wonderful, fun day and a day of celebrating on many levels.
What a year it's been... it's almost hard to believe that at this time last year we were at Vanderbilt Hospital in Tennessee... so thankful that our little girl made it through the delivery okay, but scared, shocked, and wondering what the next weeks would hold. We can't help but think of and be thankful again for each of you who supported us and helped us during that crazy time, for Maylee's amazing care team, and for our loving, healing heavenly Father. Maylee had her one year check up on Tuesday, and her doctor agreed that she's remarkable in her progress her first year after her rough start... and pretty much caught up to where a full term baby would be. She's now 21 lb 10 oz (60th percentile) and 29.75" tall (73rd percentile... I think Daddy's genes are kicking in already). She's getting closer to walking on her own each day, and will take 5-6 steps to get from me to Daddy or back to me... but still loves how much faster she can go when crawling or walking holding our hands. She loves her brother and always wants to be doing what he's doing. She still has stranger anxiety and most loves to be held by me and Daddy. She recently figured out how to nod her head "yes" and can kick and throw a beach ball... so fun! We especially love how how cute she looks when she schrunches up her nose and smiles, her sweet shy smiles, the way she snuggles on our shoulders, her kisses (and seeing her kiss the babies in her books and her dolls) and Ry loves that she likes it when he hugs her (she lights up like it's the best thing ever... she really adores him!). She brings us so much joy and we love her so much!!
Here are some fun photos of her cake and presents (and more photos to come)...
